The Road To Carriden
(Words & music © Pete MacGregor)
You'll not remember times ago
The years were long and we were young.
Every Friday night we'd go
And take the road to Carriden
Arm in arm, remember when
Along the road to Carriden
A winter's night so dark and cold
After the dancin' I'd walk ye home
We'd bide a while along the road
That led us down to Carriden.
After the fair, the rides, the shows,
The couples a' would quietly stray,
The summer sun was rising when
We walked the road to Carriden.
I wandered on; I've not returned.
No doubt the sights and the sounds are changed.
Maybe you'll mind me, now and then
When e'er you're down at Carriden.
I'm older now, still it seems
Friday night's the night for dreams
I'll take a drink and think on when
We walked the road to Carriden.
I mind the Forth, I mind the glen
I mind the snow far on the ben,
But was it Janet, Jean or Jen
I walked along to Carriden?
